This week, Ben continued showing us how to use groups and frames. he actual lecture was more practical, but I decided to do some practice once I got home to solidify what I had learned.

Additional practice outside of class

I watched a couple of figma tutorials at home to further my understanding of groups/frames. heres some notes i took:

Groups

first i wanted to experiment with grouping. i started with three. shapes and used the shortcut, ‘command G’

This is how my layer looked before i grouped it.

and after i grouped it.

grouping vs frame selection

at first glance they seem to carry out the same function. the difference is, frame selection allows you to clip your content and grouping does not.

frame constraints

another benefit to using frames over groups is it has constraints.

Layout Grids

there is 3 dominant ones.

vertical grid most common, good for aligning things vertically for mobile devices etc.
