This week was our last lecture of the semester, and we finished by critiquing our designer bio apps. Mine was far from finished, but im still glad I presented it as the feedback I received was really useful.

Changes from critique

The first change made was to change my buttons to text buttons. This was Kyles suggestion, and it definitely improved the websites overall look.

I think this made a difference because it increased the usability of my app, as users won’t just be pressing the button for the sake of it now, but because they know the contents are to follow

.

Use different grids

The next piece of advice was to trial different grid systems. while I was hesitant to try this at first as I wanted every page to have the same layout, I quickly realised this would allow my app to look much more appealing and less boring. Kyle even drew me out some structural ideas, which I have tried to integrate as much as I can into my app.

Keep navigation to a minimum

due to this being inspired by the Swiss styles simplicity, I knew I didn't want a big navigation bar. The critique solidified this, and also made me realise how important navigation is. Previous to this lesson, I had no navigation but only a mockup, below is the mockup vs after I decided to keep it minimalistic.

final navigation

I also used my notes from our lessons with Ben to create different hover states for my navigation buttons.
