Weingart was a Swiss designer and typographer, he was often called the ‘father of New Wave or Swiss Punk typography’. He studied under Emil Ruder in Basel but rebelled against strict Swiss design rules, experimenting with layering, distortion, and expressive type.
According to Weingart, “I took ‘Swiss Typography’ as my starting point, but then I blew it apart, never forcing any style upon my students. I never intended to create a ‘style’. It just happened that the students picked up—and misinterpreted—a so-called ‘Weingart style’ and spread it around.”

“I took ‘Swiss Typography’ as my starting point, but then I blew it apart, never forcing any style upon my students. I never intended to create a ‘style’.” — Wolfgang Weingart. its icnredinle how he unintentionally created his own style, i think its so recognisable as its veyr unique.

Massimo Vignelli was an italian modernist designer, who initially rose to fame for his new york city subway map. i really like his design, as its doesn’t include unnecessary details and focuses purely on function. it does this by using bold colour lines clarity to guide the viewer effortlessly. You can really see the modernist influence in how clean and minimal it is, everything has a purpose. It’s a great example of how design doesn’t need to be complicated to work well.

Brockmann grew up in Switzerland, and studied at the University of Zurich in multiple areas such as design architecture and the history of art. Müller-Brockmann believed that good design should communicate clearly without unnecessary decoration, a principle that still influences modern graphic and UX design today. he first gained recognition for his concert posters for the series ‘Musica Viva’. I find these posters incredible, it’s almost hard to tell if it was created in the 1950s, or in 2025.
